DAY TRIPPING – DESTINATION ALNMOUTH

Good evening beautiful souls,

Last week I was luck enough to have 3 days off, which for me is very rare and thus meant that I actually had time to do something nice for myself once all the housework and various other tasks were completed. The weather was so nice and I was craving a beach trip, but not being able to drive made this wish a bit problematic. Sadly there aren’t many easily accessible by public transport beaches around, well not unless you want to sit on a bus for over an hour which for me is a big no no as I get serious travel anxiety when it comes to bus journeys that are longer then 20mins! After some research however I discovered that Alnmouth station was pretty easy to get to only being a 30min walk away from the beach and so I had my day trip destination.

The walk to the beach is quite a pleasant and easy to follow as it’s just along the main road. From the station you firstly walk through a small housing estate and then it’s out in nature with wild fields on your left and glimpses of the sea on your right. After about 20 minutes you reach central Almnouth and walk through it’s floral hanging basket lined street until you reach the golf course and the beach.

On my way down to the beach I came across these beautiful roses and I had to stop and give them a sniff – does anyone else do this whenever they see roses?! They smelt divine and I’m not going to lie, I was very tempted to snap one off and take it with me!

The beach was relatively busy, the sun was out and there was a light breeze rippling through my hair as picked a little empty spot to put down my picnic blanket. Once settled I sat back with my feet in the sand just enjoying being in the present moment and watching the world around me; the grandparents sitting in their folding chair reading their papers, children hopping from stone to stone and family’s running around playing Frisbee and flying kites. It was a beautiful afternoon.

It wasn’t long until I unpacked my picnic full of healthy vegan goodies and read a bit of my book whilst savouring my lunch. I had grapes, blueberries, pretzels, veg, hummus and crackers as well as a little can of G&T. It was the perfect picnic! Afterwards I lay down with my headphones on listening to my audiobook (The Count of Monte Cristo) and relishing the feeling of the sun warming my skin.

Sadly the clouds came in not long after and they didn’t seem to want to budge meaning I got chilly quite quickly and ended up deciding to pack up and head on home again, but not before I took a stroll along the beach and dipped my toes in the chilly sea of course. Although I was only there for about 2 hours, it really was worth it and I enjoyed every minute of my mini excursion!

I hope you’ve all found the time recently to go out and do something nice for yourselves too! I know I need to make time for myself like this more often. I don’t do it enough and it did me the world of good!

MY FAVOURITE YOUTUBE CHANNELS

Good morning guys,

Hope you’re all having a nice day so far! I may be stuck at work until 5pm today, but the sun is shining so it doesn’t seems so bad. At the moment the cafe is quiet so with the music softly playing in the background and nothing to do I thought I’d write a quick post sharing some of my favourite YouTuber’s with you.

I only really started getting hooked on YouTube about 2/3 years ago when one of my flatmates from uni told me about some of the YouTuber’s she followed and showed me some of their videos. It was then I realised I enjoyed watching vlogs, learning more about beauty and watching peoples latest fashion hauls. I became hookedand have since discovered the Youtuber’s who inspire me, make me laugh or who I can relate to. So for today’s post I just wanted to let you know who my all-time faves are (the YouTuber’s where I won’t miss a video) as well as some of the others I watch on a regular basis too.

Helen Anderson

I absolutely love watching Helen’s videos, especially her vlogs. I love her style and she is such a laugh. Her vlogs are very honest, really showing her everyday life with all its ups and downs including her squabbles with husband Matthew which just makes her even more relatable. She includes a whole mix of things from beauty, fashion, DIY, homeware, music… I just think she’s fab!

Zoe Sugg

Zoe I love best for her vlogs and favourites videos I think. She is just the cutest. Zoe has such a smiley personality and is always up for a laugh which is infectious. Also although she’s about ten sizes smaller than me aha I enjoy watching her fashion hauls as she always has fab outfits. She’s just an overall good bean!

The SacconeJoly’s

The SacconeJoly’s are a family of five, Jonathan and Anna, their kids Emilia, Eduardo and Alessia as well as their six Maltese dogs. They upload a vlog every day and I love watching them. The kids just put a smile on my face with their everyday shenanigans.

Kate Flowers

I am so glad I found Kates channel last year! She is such a natural beauty and sweetheart; I quickly became hooked to her vegan lifestyle videos; what I eat in a day’s and other vlogs sharing her passion for health, veganism, dancing and LGBT.

Kalyn Nicholson

I have been following Kalyn for a while, but have only recently started watching her vlogs more religiously. She has such a chatty friendly personality and her content is great; a real variety from books to makeup looks.

Other YouTube channels I like:

Tanya Burr, Raw Alignment, Mae FlowersJenny Mustard, Inthefrow, Ryan and Aiden, Zoe London, Carly Rowena

Well those are my favourite YouTuber’s. Who are yours? I’d love discovering new channels so please do let me know!

QUITTING THE BOOZE AND TURNING VEGAN

Hey guys,

Still stuck with no internet at home! eurgh! So only managing weekly posts at the moment whilst at dads cafe before I start my shift.

Before I start this post I also need to admit that I have now been on a plateau for the last two months! shock – horror! Time has just flown by and I started slacking I guess, deluding myself. Anyway I am not proud and I am hoping that the challenge I ma setting myself for the next month will help focus me again and bring me back on track. I have set myself the challenge of going booze free and vegan for 1 month! (so no more pizza and wine for now aha)

13428379_10209721428496927_6065672001101816600_n

I have been toying with the idea of becoming vegan for a while now; definitely for animal cruelty reasons and the environment but also very much so for health reasons. However I can’t lie, I do love the taste of meat and eggs are such a staple part of my diet so how on earth would I manage going fully vegan?!?! As you know I have already cut out most milk products from my life as I believe I am lactose intolerant and for a good month or so I haven’t bought any supermarket mass produced meat anymore but rather quorn, vegetarian sausages or occasionally organic humanely butchered meat from a small local farm. So I have been making some changes already.

Furthermore I have decided I want to give up alcohol for a month too, again for the health benefits. I seem to have formed a habit of having a beer (or sometimes 2 or even 3) after work nearly every day! It’s not healthy and even though i don’t drink to get drunk, 2 pints can still leave me feeling rather groggy the next morning! I am not yet ready to become tea total but I think it would benefit me having a bit of an alcohol detox for now and then afterwards in the long run try to reduce the amount I drink in general and sticking to low alcohol beers for example. This should also help get me off this horrid plateau as I always disregard alcohol calories!

Anyway, so without fully committing myself yet I wanted to do a trial month of veganism and being tea total to really see and feel the health benefits in the hope that there will be drastic positive changes that motivate me to then continue veganism and at least reduce my alcohol intake. As it was my birthday on Thursday I’ve been enjoying celebrating over the weekend and will now be starting this challenge on Monday! So wish me luck! We’ll see how it goes!
